Maya has officially launched the Maya Black Credit Card alongside Maya Black Preferred, a comprehensive rewards program designed to integrate the company’s consumer and enterprise services.
The Maya Black Credit Card has shown strong market traction since its pilot in May 2025, with more than 40,000 cards issued during the soft launch period.
Maya Black marks the brand’s entry as the first and only digital bank in the Philippines to issue credit cards directly. Combined with Maya’s existing co-branded credit card offerings, the company has issued over 230,000 cards since August 2024, many to first-time cardholders.
What features does the Maya Black Credit Card offer?
Maya Black provides both secured and unsecured credit lines with digital-first features: a fast approval process, instant virtual card issuance, and comprehensive in-app management controls. The physical card uses a numberless design for enhanced security, and cardholders can freeze or request a replacement directly through the mobile app.
Cardholders earn Maya Miles on all transactions, tracked in real time within the app. The rewards program includes a welcome bonus of 3,000 miles after activating the physical card and spending PHP 5,000 within the first 60 days.
Future updates will allow customers to use Maya Miles for direct payments at participating merchants or convert them to travel rewards, such as Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Miles.
Additional benefits include access to global airport lounges via DragonPass—covering PAGSS and Marhaba lounges at Ninoy Aquino International Airport—and acceptance at more than 130 million merchants worldwide through the Visa network.
What is Maya Black Preferred and how does it work?
Maya Black Preferred connects Maya’s credit platform with its payment processing network, creating a unified ecosystem for merchants and cardholders. The program includes over 600 participating merchant locations nationwide where Maya Black cardholders can earn up to 10x Maya Miles on purchases.
This leverages Maya’s position as the Philippines’ largest payment processor—through Maya Business, the company handles over half of all card transactions nationwide. The program aims to drive customer loyalty for merchants while providing enhanced rewards for cardholders.
Maya plans to expand integration by using behavioral insights from its acquiring tools—including Maya Checkout, Maya POS, and Maya Business Manager—to develop tailored credit solutions for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
How does this address the Philippine credit market?
The launch also seeks to address significant gaps in the Philippine credit market. According to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas data from 2021, 56% of Filipino adults found obtaining a credit card difficult. TransUnion reported in 2023 that only 15% of Filipino adults possessed a credit card.
Maya’s data-driven platform connects banking and payments operations in real time, enabling faster credit approvals, more accurate risk assessments, and personalized offers. This approach aims to expand credit access while maintaining responsible lending practices.
How do you apply for a Maya Black Credit Card?
You can apply for a Maya Black Credit Card via the Maya app.
Who are the brand ambassadors and what’s Maya’s strategy?
Maya introduced Julia Barretto, Maris Racal, and Jericho Rosales as brand ambassadors for the Maya Black lifestyle, targeting consumers who value financial independence and bold decision‑making.
